Singer/songwriter Jodie Levinson, a native of the Garden State, has always excelled in the performing arts. As a teenager, she spent many years very focused on dance, and became involved in theater and voice. While proficient in all three areas, Jodie gravitated towards singing and spent high school days developing her skills with Jersey-based vocal coach, Beth Schwartz. She also learned to play piano and continued mastering the instrument throughout her college years at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, New York.
While studying Sociology and French at Skidmore, Jodie honed her performance skills by singing and musically directing the all female acappella group, The Skidmore Accents, and forming her first band, Grace Over Glass. The group came out with an EP produced in the basement of her music professor, John Nazarenko. Shortly following that recording, Jodie met Zack Schwartz and collaborated with him on several songs, three of which are featured on “In the City.” Throughout her college years and during the summer months, Grace Over Glass performed at many iconic New York City music venues including The Cutting Room and The Bitter End as well as locally at the Saratoga Springs venue, Café Lena.
In the summer of 2009, Jodie met Producer Matt Pendergrast (song remixer for artists including Mary J. Blige, Britney Spears & Ciara). Together, they recorded Levinson’s first single, “Matter of Taste,” co-written with Zack and featuring him on guitar. Soon after this professional relationship, Jodie began working with hit composer/producer Lisa Ratner (Barbra Streisand, Vanessa Williams & Dolly Parton). (continued next page) |
